Barbara moved from Dallas to Midland two years ago. She was born in Denton, TX to artistic parents and attended North Texas University. This proud "Native Texan" enjoys being retired in Midland and is also a newlywed. Spending time with her husband, Charles, and painting with new friends has been an ideal "new" life experience for her. The "old" life was good too and included being a mother and owning a decorative tile business.
Barbara says, "I learned most about oil painting by reading books, taking lessons, and watching many expert artists in person and on videos. Practicing their styles and techniques was helpful and fun to try. I vary subject matter (portraits, landscapes and still life) because I think it keeps my paintings 'fresh'. "
Currently, Barbara is the secretary of The Palette Club of Midland and is a member of the Odessa Art Guild and Midland Art Association. In 2011 she won "Best of Show" at the annual juried MAA show, "First Place" at the Ellen Noel Museum exhibit in Odessa, "Second Place" at the MAA spring show at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland and also a "Second Place" award at the Andrews Art Guild annual show.
Her goals are to express the personalities of the people in portraitures, to show motion and light in landscapes, and to create "lively" still life paintings. Experimenting with techniques and brush strokes, mixing bold and beautiful color, and seeking interesting subject material will inspire her future artwork.
